Write a FOSS manifesto
There is a lot of confusion on what Feneas is and our relationship to FOSS. We're clearly very FOSS orientated and would not work to promote proprietary services, but since this is not actually written anywhere, we should have a manifesto.
This could indicate, for example:
- Indicating our relationship to FOSS (being developers, advocates, etc)
- Explain our "non political" clause in the rules is not meant to mean that FOSS is not preferred. We're registered as a "non-political organization" to avoid the issue that we can be claimed to prefer someone over their political views, for example. It's basically legal text.
- Explain that while we wont exclude proprietary software developers or projects from joining and interacting with the community (that would violate our CoC), we do prefer working with FOSS developers and projects. We would never willingly promote non-FOSS federated projects. We do however thank our infrastructure sponsors, but they're not federated projects.
- Explain that we would never use Feneas funds for benefiting or advertising a proprietary project or developer.
Please feel free to contribute to this manifesto by including snippets here or starting a document for example in this repository.
Due to the nature of this document establishing further constraints on the association, my feeling is it should pass with majority vote in an annual meeting. Lets handle it in the next one.
